Tate McRae has mixed emotions about being likened to Britney Spears.

In a recent interview with The Independent, coinciding with the release of her third studio album, So Close to What (Feb. 21), the 21-year-old singer addressed the frequent comparisons to the pop legend, now 43.

McRae described the comparison as both “flattering and scary,” adding, “It’s such a wild statement because no one can compare to Britney Spears. It’s like comparing someone to Michael Jackson—that’s the blueprint!”

Before her rise as a singer, McRae gained recognition as a dancer, placing third on So You Think You Can Dance at just 13. She later found success on YouTube, earning five Billboard Hot 100 hits and making her Saturday Night Live debut in 2023.
