Nigerian Muslim faithful today Monday, March 11, 2024 commenced the Ramadan fast following the announcement by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III of the sighting of the moon.
The Sultan of Sokoto announced the sighting of the new crescent in Sokoto on Sunday in a national broadcast, stating that the moon was sighted in different parts of the country and reports of the moon sighting were received from Muslim leaders and Islamic Organisations around the country.
He enjoined Muslim faithful to devote themselves fully to the worship of Allah throughout the holy month while urging them to use the period to pray for peace for the country and the wealthy to be charitable to the poor and vulnerable in this trying period.
