Rogelio “Roger” Nores, an Argentinian entrepreneur and close companion of the late Liam Payne, has spoken publicly about their relationship following his acquittal in a manslaughter case linked to the singer’s death.
Speaking to Reuters in an interview published on Friday, March 7, Nores described the difficulty of witnessing Payne’s struggles. “When you see a friend battling substance issues, you try to help, but ultimately, it’s their choice,” he said.
Nores reflected on the circumstances surrounding Payne’s passing, calling it a string of unfortunate events that led to a tragic end.
Payne, a former member of One Direction, passed away in October 2024 at the age of 31 after a fall from a hotel balcony at CasaSur Palermo in Buenos Aires. Initial autopsy findings pointed to multiple injuries and severe internal and external bleeding. A toxicology report released the following month revealed the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants in his system.
An inquest held in the UK in December 2024 officially recorded his cause of death as “polytrauma.”
Nores shared that he and Payne had grown particularly close in the months leading up to the singer’s death. “We were practically inseparable during the last six months of his life,” he said, noting they spent time together daily with their respective partners.
