The seasoned Nollywood actor Kanayo O Kanayo is thrilled to be playing in the upcoming movie Out of Breath, which will have his first significant Igbo-speaking part in decades.

The actor became well-known for his portrayal of Chief Omego, a ritualist, in the Igbo film Living in Bondage. Over the last 30 years, he has starred in numerous other films, but this is the first time he is going back to his origins in a big-budget project.

“Everyone is at home in his dialect. English language remains a borrowed tongue,” he captioned an Instagram post about the new film’s trailer on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

The Igbo epic film Out of Breath, which is marketed as an African tale of bravery and tradition, is purportedly based on actual occurrences.

In honour of his 57th birthday, director Obi Emelonye unveiled the trailer for the movie on Sunday, March 24.

He wrote on Twitter, “By cooking something in Igbo, I have planted another legacy tree.”

Out of Breath also features Jidekene Achufusi, Chidi Mokeme, Queen Nwokoye, Ebele Okaro, Obi Okoli, Chinenye Nnebe, and Echelon Mbadiwe.
