President Bola Tinubu has directed that the Lagos/Calabar Coastal highway project should not alter the MTN under water cable to avoid a repeat of internet outage which affected West African countries in the first quarter of this year.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, who revealed this at the National Assembly Joint Committee on Works and the Federal Ministry of Works stakeholders’ engagement on the ongoing Highway project, also said the Federal Government has proposed N341 billion for emergency repair of roads and bridges nationwide in 2025, but the amount might not be sufficient considering the extent of the damage.
He urged Governors of the 36 states to go on with construction of road infrastructures across their states emphasizing, there were no distinctions between state and federal roads in the Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Chairmen of Works committees at the National Assembly, honourable Akin Alabi and Senator Mpigi Barinada, emphasized that people who were affected by the coastal high way project should be duly compensated while cautioning against ethnic colouration of the project by aggrieved persons.
