*How did you discover your music talent?*
Discovering my music talent was a divine revelation. Initially, I didn’t see myself as a skilled singer, but as I sought God’s face about my purpose, He revealed that He had called me to be a music minister. Through prayer, reflection, and obedience, I began to understand the power of worship and music in bringing people together and uplifting their spirits. Now, I’m passionate about using music to inspire others, pointing them to God’s love. By the grace of God, my Music ministry is a blessing to people and I’m committed to serving and glorifying Him through songs.
How do you combine music with your profession?
Combining music with my profession requires intentional balance, prioritization, and grace. As a music minister, pastor’s wife, I’ve learned to integrate my passions and responsibilities.
1. Ministry through music: My profession as a pastor’s wife and music minister allows me to use music as a tool for worship, teaching, and outreach.
2. Flexible scheduling: I balance music commitments with pastoral duties, ensuring harmony between both roles. My husband is my biggest cheerleader providing encouragement and understanding.
3. Time management: I prioritize family time, scheduling music commitments around my family’s needs.
Ultimately, I rely on God’s strength and wisdom to navigate these multiple roles. His grace enables me to balance music, and my profession, using my gifts to glorify Him and inspire others.
*What inspired the new single that you just released?*
‘Signs and Wonders’ was inspired by the Holy Spirit, reflecting my experiences with prayer and God’s limitless power (Hebrews 2:4). As a Christian and member of Streams of Joy/NSPPD, I’ve witnessed miracles happen through our daily prayers, reaffirming that nothing is impossible with God.
I’m grateful for the leadership and guidance of Pastor Jerry Eze, convener of NSPPD, and Pastor Eno Jerry, whose unwavering faith, commitment and dedication have fostered an environment where miracles thrive.
This song is a testament to God’s faithfulness, a celebration of His wonders, and a declaration of His limitless power.
*What is the music theme or message on this single?*
Divine Intervention, Hope, and Faith
*What was your experience when you first dropped your first single?*
Releasing ‘Sound of Joy’ was exhilarating! I felt grateful, nervous, and joyful. The support from my church, family and friends was overwhelming. Hearing how my song uplifted others reaffirmed my purpose: sharing joy and glorifying God through music
*Some career women always have issues with their spouse on the home front; what is your secret?*
My secret to balancing career and family life? I didn’t find it, I found him! My incredible husband is my rock, supporting me unconditionally. Together, we prioritize communication, flexibility, and teamwork.
We recognize our unique callings and strengths, leveraging them to uplift each other. It’s a beautiful partnership, built on mutual respect, trust, and faith.
I’m grateful for his selfless encouragement, helping me become all God created me to be. We navigate life’s challenges side by side, finding creative solutions.
No perfect formula, just a perfect partner!
*Were you an entertainer; are you extrovert or introvert at growing up?*
As Dora Kay, I’m a gospel musician, but I’ll share my personality and background.
Growing up, I was an introverted child, very reserved and shy. However, music helped me express myself and break out of my shell.
As I grew older, my passion for music and ministry led me to become more outgoing and confident. I’d describe myself now as an ambivert – balancing introverted and extroverted traits.
On stage, I’m energetic and passionate, connecting with the audience through music. Off stage, I cherish quiet moments, reflecting on my faith and family.
Music has been a transformative journey, helping me overcome shyness and share my message with the world.
*Was there any difference singing gospel abroad and here in Nigeria?*
Definitely yes! Nigerian worship services are known for their energetic and lively atmosphere, with enthusiastic singing, dancing, and instrumental accompaniment. In contrast, worship styles in the diaspora may be more subdued, formal, or reserved, so that took some getting used to.
*How do you think your music will survive in Nigeria’s gospel setting with the big names?*
Within Nigeria’s thriving gospel music scene, I believe my unique sound is destined for this season and it will inspire hope, uplift spirits, bring souls to Christ, impacting lives and glorifying God.
*Among all your songs, which one is your favorite?*
I love all my songs, but the favorite one for me right now is ‘Signs and Wonders.’
*What are the challenges you are facing at the moment?*
My main challenges currently are higher production costs and effective music promotion.
*What inspired your music career in gospel and not other genre?*
My love for God and my understanding of what He has called me to do; to be a vessel for His glory.
*If you were not doing gospel music which genre would you have done?*
Maybe Soul/Inspirational music.
