Portuguese striker Diogo Jota tragically died early Thursday morning in a car accident near Zamora, Spain, alongside his brother and fellow footballer, Andre Jota, 26.
The brothers were driving a Lamborghini on the A-52 highway near the town of Cernadilla when a tyre reportedly blew out during an overtaking maneuver. The vehicle veered off the road, rolled, and caught fire shortly after 12:30 a.m. Emergency responders arrived quickly but were unable to save them.

Graphic footage shows the burnt remains of the supercar at the crash site, with emergency crews investigating the scene.

Diogo Jota had recently married Rute Cardoso, mother of his three children, in Porto on June 22. In his final Instagram post just a day before the accident, he called himself the “luckiest man in the world” to be her husband. Rute shared wedding photos and described the day as her “dream come true.”
Emergency services in Castilla y León confirmed the crash and two fatalities. The Portuguese Football Federation and Liverpool Football Club also confirmed the deaths of the brothers.
A statement from the regional emergency center detailed the incident: multiple calls reported a vehicle accident at kilometer 65 on the A-52. Authorities dispatched fire and medical teams, who confirmed both men had died at the scene.
