U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has ordered a temporary suspension of student visa processing, citing plans to ramp up social media vetting. 

The directive, issued via internal cable, halts new student and exchange visa appointments until further guidance is released. 

This move follows broader Trump administration efforts to restrict international student access, including revoking thousands of visas and attempting to bar Harvard from admitting foreign students. 

While the suspension may be brief, processing backlogs remain a concern. Critics say the actions target pro-Gaza student activists, a claim Rubio’s team ties to U.S. foreign policy interests.
