The US is set to impose new sanctions on Sudan, effective June 6, after finding evidence that chemical weapons were used in last year’s brutal civil war against the Rapid Support Forces.

Restrictions will target US exports to Sudan and limit the country’s ability to borrow internationally. The conflict, now two years old, has already claimed over 150,000 lives and displaced millions.
While no official Sudanese response has yet been given, the US urged Sudan to stop using chemical weapons and abide by the Chemical Weapons Convention.
This latest move follows previous sanctions on military leaders accused of war crimes and genocide, and has sparked tensions over the UAE’s alleged involvement in the conflict.
The humanitarian crisis worsens as millions remain in urgent need of aid.
