The UK Government has announced major reforms to sentencing aimed at making communities safer and cutting down on repeat offences.
Launched on Sunday, these changes come under the Government’s Plan for Change and give judges wider authority to impose restrictions beyond traditional penalties. Offenders could now face bans from pubs, concerts, and sporting events as part of their sentences. Judges may also enforce travel bans, driving restrictions, and confine offenders to specific areas.
The new measures will apply to both community sentences and those on probation after release from prison. Additionally, mandatory drug testing will be expanded to include all supervised offenders, not just those with a history of substance misuse.
