Tottenham Hotspur ended their 17-year wait for silverware as Brennan Johnson’s scrappy first-half goal secured a 1–0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final.

The victory delivered on manager Ange Postecoglou’s promise to win a trophy in his second season, making him only the third Tottenham boss to win a European title, after Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.
Tottenham now qualify for the Champions League and a £100m windfall.
In contrast, it was a night of more misery for Manchester United. This loss caps off their worst season since 1973–74, and they now face a future without European football.
