Tory Lanez’s team has confirmed that the artist was the victim of a stabbing incident while in prison.
Shortly after a report emerged on Monday, May 12, stating that the performer had allegedly been attacked by another inmate, an official statement appeared on his Instagram account confirming the incident.
According to the statement, the individual sustained 14 stab wounds—seven to the back, four to the torso, two to the back of the head, and one to the left side of the face. Both lungs collapsed, and the injured party was placed on a breathing machine but is now able to breathe without assistance.
Despite the severity of the injuries, the update shared that he remains communicative, in positive spirits, and grateful to be recovering. The message also extended thanks for the ongoing prayers and support.
Initial reports indicated that the incident occurred during a confrontation in the yard of the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.
As reported by The Los Angeles Times, the event took place around 7:20 a.m. within a prison housing unit. Correctional staff responded immediately by initiating emergency procedures, including activating 911 and administering medical aid, before transporting the individual to a nearby hospital via ambulance.
The situation is under active investigation by both the California Correctional Institution and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office. The Office of the Inspector General has also been notified of the incident.
A request for comment has been made to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The artist was convicted in December 2022 on all three counts connected to the incident: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and reckless discharge of a firearm.
In January, a restraining order was issued in favor of Megan (legally known as Megan Pete), prohibiting contact through January 9, 2030, according to court records.
