President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace the country’s diversity as a strength for unity, stability, and progress.

Making the call during a meeting with Catholic Bishops in Rome on Sunday after the inauguration of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, President Tinubu said Nigeria’s hope lies in using its diversity for prosperity, not adversity, stressing the need for leaders at all levels to work together for the good of all citizens.

The Nigerian leader who spoke earlier after the ordination of new Catholic Pontiff, Pope Leo XIV, said it was historic for him to be in office during the inauguration of the 267th Bishop of Rome, describing the occasion as a strong reflection of unity, interfaith harmony, and global solidarity.

President Tinubu noted that the Pope’s outreach extended beyond spiritual leadership to meaningful efforts towards global peace.

In separate remarks, Catholic Bishops, led by Archbishop Lucius Ugorji, thanked President Tinubu for making it possible for them to visit the Vatican for the burial of Pope Francis and the consecration of the new Pope, while they expressed hope for continued dialogue and cooperation.

Highlighting the Pope’s long-standing connection with Nigeria, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs Bianca Ojukwu revealed that President Tinubu’s attendance sent a strong message about Nigeria’s religious openness and support for global Peace and Unity.

The inauguration of Pope Leo XIV marks the beginning of a new era for the Roman Catholic Church, and Nigeria’s presence at the ceremony further underscores its commitment to shared global values of peace, mutual respect, and unity.
