Solomon Buchi Criticizes BET for Naming GloRilla Best Gospel Artist
Nigerian writer and social commentator Solomon Buchi has publicly criticized the organizers of the BET Awards for presenting the Best Gospel Artist award to American rapper and songwriter GloRilla.
The award, which was given during the ceremony held last weekend, sparked backlash from Buchi, who argued in a video that GloRilla’s collaboration with a gospel artist does not qualify her as a gospel singer deserving of the title.
Buchi further questioned the credibility of the selection, criticizing GloRilla’s style and image. He said, “So naked, profane-singing, seductively pop stars are now winning gospel awards? Shame on all involved to make this happen. Again, gospel industry is a scam. It became a scam ever since it stopped being ministry.“
His remarks have stirred online discussion, with many questioning the evolving standards in gospel music award categories.
