The Nigerian Senate has announced members of the constitution amendment committee to be chaired by the Deputy Senate President, Jibril Barau, with the Senate leader, Bamidele Opeyemi as the Vice Chairman.
Announcing the committee at plenary, the Senate President noted that the 1999 constitution needs a major review, while he asked his deputy to invite Speakers of State Houses of Assembly for interaction before the beginning of the review.
Correspondent Raliat Adenekan in Abuja, reports that the constitution amendment committee is made of 43 Senators, 37 from each state of the federation including the FCT, and another six representing the 6 geopolitical zones of the country.
The committee which is expected to be inaugurated next week Tuesday, will in particular review the laws in the area of Artificial Intelligence, State Police, among others.
