Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the payment of N5
million compensation to an Uber driver, Adedotun Clement, who was assaulted on
October 20, 2021, during a rally to mark the one-year anniversary of the #EndSARS
protest in the State.
The Governor, in a statement on Saturday, said he had “directed the Honorable
Attorney General to set up a meeting” and pay him the compensation awarded by
the court, despite the State Government appealed the ruling.
The governor said the move was acting in the interest of the public good.
Elsewhere, the Lagos State government says it will prosecute Chrisland School,
Ikeja, for alleged involuntary manslaughter, reckless and negligent act over the
death of a 12-year-old student, Whitney Adeniran, who died from electrocution
during inter house sport.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs in the ministry, Mrs
Grace Alo, some members of staff and one of the vendors will therefore be charged
with the offences.
