Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has pushed back against US President Donald Trump after Spain refused to allow American planes use its military bases for strikes on Iran.

In a televised address, Sánchez said Spain’s position is clear: “no to war.” He stressed that his government would not support actions it believes are harmful or against Spain’s values, despite Trump’s threat to cut trade ties.

Trump described Spain as a “terrible” ally and criticised its refusal to increase NATO defence spending. Sánchez, however, maintained that many governments and citizens share Spain’s opposition to further conflict.
