Country music legend Ronnie McDowell was hospitalized this past weekend after experiencing a mini stroke while performing live at the Summer Solstice Music Festival in Oley, Pennsylvania.
The 75-year-old singer, celebrated for hits such as “Older Women” and “The King is Gone,” began slurring his speech midway through his Saturday night set. According to WKRN in Nashville, McDowell was helped off stage by his tour manager after singing just a few songs. Backstage, he acknowledged he was feeling unwell and suspected he might be having a stroke.

Thanks to his manager’s quick action, McDowell was taken immediately for medical care. On Monday, a spokesperson confirmed to Page Six that McDowell had suffered a minor stroke, but noted he was in stable condition, undergoing tests, and expected to return to Nashville once cleared.
McDowell’s son, Tyler Dean McDowell, shared updates with fans on Facebook, saying he had flown to Pennsylvania to be by his father’s side. “He’s alert and waiting for an MRI,” Tyler wrote, later adding that they were doing their best to keep his father comfortable. “I brought him some Popcorners and Kombucha—he lit up like a kid in a candy store.”
Tyler thanked fans for their concern but also asked for space during this emotional time. “I know everyone’s worried. Believe me, no one more than me. Please understand how stressful this is, and for now, my focus is on my dad,” he wrote. “If anything major changes, we’ll keep you posted.”
He ended with a heartfelt message: “If you’re able, please pray for him.”
