The House of Representatives has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately suspend the increased ATM transaction charges and the removal of free ATM withdrawals for customers using other banks’ ATMs.
Adopting a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Marcus Onobun, the green chamber called for the pause of the new CBN ATM policy pending proper engagement with relevant House committees, noting that it imposes additional financial burdens on Nigerians.
Meanwhile, the House also directed the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, to compel all internet service providers to block all pornographic sites in the country with immediate effect.
Moving the motion, lawmaker from Katsina State, Dalhatu Tafoki, argued that cyber pornography was becoming a global problem, and Nigeria had not taken adequate steps to address it.
Adopting the motion, the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, who presided over plenary mandated the relevant committees to ensure implementation and report back within four weeks.
