A Missouri man, Jeffrey Goedde, 41, turned himself in to authorities on Dec. 18, confessing to the murder of his 75-year-old father, Edward Goedde. According to police, Jeffrey arrived at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office around 11:40 a.m., stating,
“I made a mistake. I committed a crime, and I want to turn myself in.”
An autopsy revealed Edward had been stabbed approximately 50 times and had sustained broken bones, signs of strangulation, and blunt force trauma to his head, face, and back. During a welfare check at their Manchester home, police detected a strong odor of bleach.
Entering through a basement window, officers found Edward’s body in the kitchen and a knife discarded in a nearby trash can.
Jeffrey allegedly admitted his father was “unconscious in the kitchen” and bleeding from his injuries, adding that he “may have used a kitchen knife” but could not recall clearly. After requesting an attorney, he declined further questioning.
Charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, Goedde is being held without bond at St. Louis County Jail. A preliminary court hearing is set for Jan. 16.
