Manchester United have announced the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a five-year contract, which will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2030, with an option to extend for an additional year.
The 26-year-old becomes United’s first major acquisition of the summer transfer window. Cunha, who has made a strong impression in the Premier League since joining Wolves, shared his excitement about the move, calling it the realisation of a lifelong ambition.
“Joining Manchester United is a dream come true,” Cunha said. “As a kid in Brazil, I watched Premier League matches at my grandmother’s house and always supported United. Wearing the red shirt is something I’ve always imagined. I’m grateful to my family and everyone who’s helped me reach this moment.”
Looking ahead, Cunha said he’s eager to start training and contribute to the team. “I’m focused on working hard during pre-season, meeting my new teammates, and helping this great club get back to where it belongs.”
United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, hailed the signing as a crucial part of the club’s plans to strengthen the squad.
“Matheus was one of our top priorities this summer, so we’re thrilled to have finalised the deal early,” Wilcox said. “He’s shown he can thrive in the Premier League and brings attacking flair, creativity, and energy—qualities essential to our vision of building a dynamic and competitive team.”
Cunha’s arrival adds depth to United’s frontline as the club aims to rebound from a disappointing season and push for silverware in the upcoming campaign.
