Jessica Simpson made a stunning return to the stage on Sunday, May 18, as she performed on American Idol during its season 23 finale. The 44-year-old singer and fashion mogul showcased her powerful vocals as she performed her latest track, “Blame Me,” from her Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1 album. She was later joined by former contestant Josh King to sing a rendition of her 2005 cover of “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” from the Dukes of Hazzard soundtrack.

Josh King shared his excitement on social media, expressing how much of an honor it was to perform with Simpson, calling the experience “absolute” in a heartfelt post.
According to TV Insider, this marked Simpson’s first televised performance in 15 years, which made the moment even more special for her fans. For the occasion, Simpson wore a dazzling silver metallic gown and debuted a fresh hair makeover. She had recently switched to a new dirty blonde shade, which she teased earlier on Instagram by sharing a video from her American Idol rehearsal. In the video, she was seen standing on the steps of her trailer, with her new song “Use My Heart Against Me” playing in the background.
Simpson’s hairstylist, Rita Hazan, described the new blonde hue as a “desert sunset blonde,” noting the color was more natural and reminiscent of “a kid on the beach.” Hazan also shared that it took two hours to achieve the look, adding a warm, sun-kissed glow to Simpson’s style.
