Former tennis world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic and ex-Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger have ended their nearly nine-year marriage.

Ivanovic’s lawyer, Christian Schertz, released a public statement confirming the separation and attributed it to “irreconcilable differences.”

Ivanovic and Schweinsteiger, once one of the most iconic couples in international sports, began dating in 2014 while Schweinsteiger played for Bayern Munich. They married in a lavish ceremony in Venice in July 2016. Schweinsteiger moved to Manchester United in 2015, and that same year, Ivanovic began winding down her tennis career. She retired in December 2016 after winning 15 WTA titles, including the 2008 French Open.

The couple has three sons. They named their first two children, Luca and Leon, but have kept their youngest son’s name private since his birth less than two years ago.

Reports of tension in the marriage surfaced months ago. In April, several outlets revealed that the couple faced a “deep crisis” due to lifestyle differences. Schweinsteiger frequently travels for his work as a football analyst, while Ivanovic reportedly spends more time in Serbia, surrounded by her family in Belgrade.

The couple last appeared together in public during the Laver Cup in Berlin in September 2023. Although they later shared a holiday photo from a Christmas market, they offered few updates afterward.

In June, German media reported that Schweinsteiger had been seen kissing another woman named Silva, a Bulgarian national allegedly linked to the couple through their children’s school. The pair reportedly traveled together to Mallorca, after previous trips to Morocco.

Ivanovic’s lawyer stated that both parties would remain silent on the matter and asked the public to respect their privacy and that of their children.

Ivanovic recently made a public appearance at Wimbledon, returning to the tournament where she reached the semi-finals 18 years ago.
