A member of the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, is in police detention for physically assaulting an e-hailing app driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, in Abuja.

FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that Ikwechegh is undergoing questioning at the Maitama Police Station, after the taxi driver reported the matter to the Command

The FCT command which also said the lawmaker disrespected the Inspector-General of Police during an altercation and made a comment that was contemptuous of the IGP’s office, will face appropriate legal action after completion of their investigation.

Ikwechegh’s political party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, also says it will set up a disciplinary committee to investigate and possibly sanction him.
