Former Premier League referee David Coote, recently dismissed over controversial behavior, has revealed his struggles with hiding his sexuality, due to fears of abuse  he would receive for being gay, apologising for the actions that led to his sacking.

Coote, 42, apologized for incidents leading to his dismissal, including a video where he made offensive remarks about Jurgen Klopp and photos suggesting drug use.

He admitted to using cocaine as an escape from personal struggles, including persistent abuse during his career. Coote expressed regret for his actions, emphasizing they occurred during a low point in his life.

His dismissal by PGMOL and ongoing investigations by the FA and UEFA highlight the pressures referees face, both on and off the field.
