Ethiopians yesterday celebrated the first day of the Ethiopian New Year 2017,
which is 7 years behind the global Gregorian calendar. They welcomed the New Year with a variety of cultural ways.

In his message, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized the importance of seizing
the opportunities presented by the incoming New Year and urged citizens to work
together to address the nation’s challenges for a brighter future.

The Ethiopian calendar, also known as the Ge’ez calendar, divides the year into 13
months.
