The Nigeria Customs Service has announced a new policy allowing duty-free clearance for imported goods valued at $300 or less. This De Minimis threshold comes into effect today, Monday, the 8th of September, 2025.

The policy is designed to simplify trade by speeding up customs clearance for low-value consignments, including e-commerce shipments and passenger baggage.

The announcement was made in a press release on Sunday by Abdullahi Maiwada, Assistant Comptroller of Customs. Under this policy, individuals can enjoy exemption from import duties on up to four shipments per year, as long as the goods are not prohibited or restricted. This move aligns Nigeria with global trade standards.
