A Wuse Zone 6 Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of controversial blogger Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, over alleged criminal defamation of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
The warrant, issued by Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna on March 13, 2025, follows VeryDarkMan’s failure to appear in court after being summoned on March 5. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, pleaded for reconsideration, assuring the court of his client’s appearance, but the magistrate declined and instructed security agencies to ensure his arrest and court appearance.
The charges relate to claims made by VeryDarkMan on social media, accusing Chinwo of being involved in a $345,000 contract dispute linked to her former label boss, Eezee Tee. Chinwo provided supporting documents to the court, including emails and receipts, asserting the statements were false and damaging to her reputation.
Her legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi of Law Corridor, stated the blogger’s actions violated Sections 391 of the Penal Code and Section 24(1)(B) of the Cybercrime Act. Chinwo has also filed a separate N1.1 billion civil lawsuit demanding retraction, public apology, and removal of the defamatory content.
