Barcelona president Joan Laporta has dismissed the possibility of Lionel Messi returning to the club, calling it unrealistic.
Laporta said this after Messi made a surprise visit to Camp Nou, where he expressed a desire to one day return. The president noted that while Messi remains a club legend, it would be inappropriate to raise false hopes about a comeback.
He, however, revealed that the club plans to host a tribute match for Messi at the renovated Camp Nou as a proper farewell for the record goalscorer.
Laporta added that Messi’s recent visit to the stadium was a spontaneous show of love for Barcelona. The Inter Miami forward is currently in Spain with Argentina ahead of a friendly against Angola.
