Asake has emerged as the top artist on Spotify’s all-time charts in Nigeria, as the streaming giant celebrates five years of operations in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya.
To mark the milestone, Spotify unveiled fresh data highlighting remarkable growth across the region. In Nigeria alone, listeners streamed a staggering 1.4 billion hours of music in 2025, underscoring the country’s deepening digital music culture.
Afrobeats continues its global dominance, recording an explosive growth of over 5,000 percent since 2021. The genre’s international expansion has significantly boosted Nigerian artists, with Asake leading the charge.
The singer not only tops the all-time artist rankings but also claims four spots among the top 10 most-streamed songs in Nigeria. He leads ahead of fellow heavyweights including Wizkid, Seyi Vibez, Burna Boy, and Davido.
The data also reflects the growing influence of emerging talents such as Fido, who features prominently among rising acts gaining strong streaming numbers.
Interestingly, Spotify revealed that the average age of Nigerian listeners on the platform is 26, with young fans driving a 158 percent surge in the consumption of local artists. This youth-led momentum continues to position Nigeria as one of Africa’s most influential music markets.
As Spotify celebrates its five-year milestone in the region, the figures reaffirm Nigeria’s status as a powerhouse in global music streaming and Afrobeats culture.
