Alex Warren Honors Late Parents Through Music

Rising star Alex Warren, fresh off major accolades like a VMA win and Billboard No. 1, says his music is deeply rooted in grief and remembrance. Speaking at the Sept. 26 We Can Survive benefit concert, the 25-year-old shared how songwriting helps him stay connected to his late parents, whom he lost as a child and young adult.

Warren’s track “First Time on Earth,” from his debut album You’ll Be Alright, Kid, was a personal turning point, written as a way to find emotional closure. “It’s a conversation with them,” he told PEOPLE, reflecting on the tears it brought.

The benefit concert, supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, was his first arena show made even more surreal by performing with his idol Ed Sheeran, who he describes as “someone who just loves what he does.
