Cartoon Network and HBO Max will soon carry “Iyanu The Series,” an epic superhero animated series created by Roye Okupe for younger audiences. The show, which is produced by Lion Forge Entertainment, is a graphic novel adaptation of producer Roye’s “Iyanu: Child of Wonder” series from Dark Horse Comics/YouNeek Studios.
The show, which is rooted in Nigerian mythology and culture, centres on the teenage protagonist Iyanu, an orphan who spends her days researching old arts and history but longs for a regular existence. She unintentionally unleashes amazing abilities one fateful day that haven’t been seen since a fabled age. Iyanu sets off on a fantastic mission with the help of her friends, the bookworm Toye and the carefree adventurer Biyi. They will battle evil forces that threaten their country, learn the truth about Iyanu’s upbringing and parents, and eventually fulfil Iyanu’s destiny to save the world.
HBO Max and Cartoon Network unveiled the all-Nigerian cast of “Iyanu The Series.” Serah Johnson, the first African and Nigerian to win a Society of Voice Arts Award for animation work, is leading the voice cast. Renowned Nollywood actresses Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Stella Damasus, Shaffy Bello, and Ike Ononye provide voices for important roles. Okey Jude and Samuel Kugbiyi, two promising newcomers, join the group as Iyanu’s devoted friends, Biyi and Toye.
The series is the result of collaboration. The plot was written by Roye Okupe and Brandon Easton, and Saxton Moore’s direction brings it to life. Completing the production crew are Ryan Haidarian, Erica Motley, Roye, Carl Reed, Doug Schwalbe, and David Steward II.
