Vogue has announced that the 2026 Met Gala will center on “Costume Art,” coinciding with the opening of the Met’s new Condé M. Nast Galleries — the Costume Institute’s first permanent space. Curator Andrew Bolton says the exhibition highlights the “dressed body” as a unifying thread across 5,000 years of art, pairing garments with works throughout The Met.
Opening May 10, 2026, the exhibit explores three body types — commonly depicted, overlooked, and universal — aiming to emphasize equality among forms of art and representation. The Met Gala, held May 4, will follow the same theme.
