Contentious Penalty Awarded For France Against Nigeria

Monday’s match between France and Nigeria at the Rennes has been said to be the most heightened drama in the tournament so far. France were awarded a spot-kick - after a video assistant review -in the 75th minute when Ngozi Ebere fouled Viviane Asseyi in the box.

Centre-back Renard stepped up to take it and missed hitting the outside of the right post. However VAR intervened, judging 18-year-old Super Falcons keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie to have moved off her line early. Renard stepped up again scoring the goal that secured France the victory.

Barcelona celebrates another Lionel Messi landmark

A goal in the Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Sevilla yesterday boosted Messi to his 500th goal in 592 club matches status. The 29-year-old who netted the first goal of the match scored his first senior goal for the La Liga club at the age of 17 in 2005 against Alcabete and has since then has broken the club’s goals scored in official matches record which was formerly held by Cesar Rodriguez, who played for the club in the 1940s and 1950s.
