fbpx LASG Commences Enforcement Against Street Begging & Hawking | The Beat 99.9 FM

The Lagos State Government has set up a special team to immediately move against street traders who have become a menace to motorists in the state. This was disclosed today during a joint press briefing by the Commissioners for Youth and Social Development; Mr. Segun Dawodu, that of Information & Strategy; Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, and Commissioner of Police; Mr. Hakeem Odumosu held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa.

While briefing the press, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Segun Dawodu said it had become imperative for the state government to curb the menace of street begging because of the environmental nuisance and security threats being constituted by it.

Dawodu, while expressing the Lagos State Government’s readiness to move against those who have established a business model of recruiting young children and adults begging for alms and bringing returns on a daily basis, said the special team’s enforcement would also move against street hawkers and traders.

In his remarks, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu who disclosed that all DPOs have been put on alert, revealed that his men had apprehended several street beggars and hawkers carrying guns and other dangerous weapons.

Our Correspondent Immanuel Odeyemi reports that the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Segun Dawodu assured that the state government, through the Rehabilitation and Child Development Departments of the Ministry, empowered a Rescue Unit saddled with the responsibility of rescuing and rehabilitating those who are destitute and vulnerable.
