Jamie Spears father to Britney Spears has agreed to step down as her conservator, and promised to participate in her life in an orderly way in a new legal agreement.

Britney’s lawyer, Mark Rosengart stated that it was a huge win for her and it was another step towards her getting justice. However, Jamie Spears' lawyer said there was no date for him to step back yet.

Britney’s career has been in the hands of her father since 2008, and in July she filed a petition to stop her father from controlling her estate if not she would stop performing. On Thursday, in response to her petition Jami Spears’ lawyer stated that he would step aside when certain things were resolve and the time was right.

Mr Spears' lawyer said he did not believe "a public battle with his daughter would be in her best interests and that he had been the unremitting target of unjustified attacks".

Mr Spears’ response to the petition was addressed by Mr Rosengart who released a statement saying "We are pleased that Mr Spears and his lawyer have today conceded in a filing that he must be removed." Although he accused Jamie Spears’ of making false accusations and taking cheap shots and asked that he remained silent and step down immediately. He further stated that investigations on those managing Britney’s estate during the conservatorship would continue.

The news was of Britney’s dad stepping down was celebrated by fellow celebrity Paris Hilton who took to Twitter to state "I'm so happy to hear this news, it's been so long overdue but I'm so glad that Britney is on her way to finally being free." But some fans felt sceptic, Leanne Simmons said it was "another manipulation tactic", and another fan said there was "still plenty of work to do"

Lisa MacCarley, a US conservatorship lawyer and #FreeBritney advocate, on BBC said "I'm sure Britney is feeling a lot of relief, the only question is how soon this is going to take place. It really depends on what conditions Jamie's attorneys put on his resignation."

The conservatorship arrangement began in 2008 when Jamie Spears’ expressed concerns over Britney’s mental health. The agreement gave Jamie Spears control over her estate and financial life and aspects of her personal life. Although he stepped down as his daughter's personal conservator in 2019 due to health issues he continued to oversee her business arrangements.

In recent months, she has asked to have him removed as her conservator and asked that he should be charged with conservatorship abuse. She expressed to the judge that she had been drugged, forced to perform against her will and prevented from having children, Mr Spears has continously denied doing any of the things mentioned and states he concerned about the wellbeing of his daughter.
