It’s the 48th edition of the Asoju Oba/Molade Okoya Thomas Cup, the oldest competition in Nigeria, and hopeful tennis players looking to win out of the remarkable prize money are now fully patronizing training centers across the state in readiness for the tournament.

 

The annual tournament which stated in the year 1968 has since its inceptin produced renowned sports men including Babatunde Obisanya, former National Coach who won the maiden edition of the event as well as current African Women champion, Olufunke Oshonaike. For all intending competitors, the priority remains the title, Nurudeen Hassan, a member of the senior national team to the last International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) senior championship and former junior boys defending champion made known his determination to exceed the 16th round at which he exited the tournament last year, according to him, it is going to be a tedious task winning the title due to the caliber of players who will compete but he is ready to battle for the men’s singles title.
