The Notorious B.I.G has been announced as one the inductees to the renowned Rock Hall of Fame. This will take place on May 2 at Cleveland's Public Auditorium. Additional inductees include Whitney Houston, Depeche Mode, the Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails and T. Rex.
These inductees are chosen by an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians and members of the music industry. The criteria for an artist to qualify for consideration is at least 25years after their first single, album or EP. Therefore, all 2020 inductees must have had their first eligible music released in or before1994.
Biggie’s inaugural album, Ready To Die, was released on September 13, 1994. It featured production from Diddy, Easy Mo Bee, Chucky Thompson, DJ Premier and Lord Finesse, among others. The Brooklyn Hip Hop legend followed up with 1997’s Life After Death, but he never got to see it hit the shelves. The 24-year-old artist was gunned down in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997, 16 days prior to its release. The project is one of only a handful of Hip Hop albums to be certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
For the first time, the Rock Hall induction ceremony will be broadcast live on HBO at 8 p.m. EST on May 2. Performances and special guests have yet to be announced.
