Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed regret and apologized for the mayhem in the state, as he admitted that the Nigerian Army deployed troops to the Lekki tollgate area of the state on Tuesday night.
The Governor, who made the apology in a live broadcast today said the Army deployed troops to the protest ground in Lekki last night, where eyewitnesses said soldiers opened fire on #EndSARS protesters in a bid to disperse them. Sanwo-Olu, who noted that as a governor, the control of military forces was not under his purview, said he was currently engaging the leadership of the Nigerian Army and Mr President on the development.
He also announced suspension of all state activities for three days in solidarity with the ongoing #ENDSARS protests and agitations across the state, adding that the flag at all government facilities will be flown half- mast in the next three days.
The Governor disclosed that about 30 youths injured in the attack are currently responding to treatment at various hospitals in the Lekki area, adding that contrary to trending videos showing fatalities during the shooting, he said nobody died in the shootout.
