fbpx FEC Approves N8.49bn For The Procurement of COVID-19 Testing Materials | The Beat 99.9 FM

The Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday approved the sum of N8.49 billion for the procurement of 12 items in various quantities for the testing of Covid-19 by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).


Briefing State House Correspondent after the 11th virtual FEC meeting, Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, who presented a memo on behalf of the NCDC in Abuja said the procurement of the materials is part of the preparedness for the increasing community transmission which has affected over 586 local government areas adding that the materials are needed to expand testing capacities and diagnostic capabilities.


Responding to a question on why the NCDC is reluctant to adopt the available rapid test kits which makes results available in minutes, Dr Osagie reiterating the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other experts position said that this testing kits is not very reliable. Our Correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that the Health Minister and the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed both commented on citizen's disregard for COVID-19 protocols especially at the All Progressives Congress governorship flag off campaign in Edo State.
